On June 28th, Tectrans sponsored a reception hosted by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa at the Getty House. The reception honored the cast and crew of the Tony Award winning Broadway musical “In the Heights.” In attendance were various celebrities, business leaders and representatives from community based organizations. Tectrans, a client of the Molera Alvarez Group, is a transportation service company based in Los Angeles, California that provides transit operations and shuttle service to both private and public entities across our nation.

On July 8th, MAG Partner, Jaime Molera, volunteered as a Hispanic Hero at the 2010 Arizona Hispanic Youth Symposium.  The Hispanic Heroes workshop provides an opportunity for high school students to learn about education and career options and build relationships with potential mentors as they connect with business and community leaders.

On June 13th, the Latino Leaders Network (LLN) hosted a Tribute to Mayors’ Reception during the U.S. Conference of Mayors. MAG Partner, Ruben Alvarez, who is a Board Officer of LLN, attended the event in Oklahoma City in which the Mayors of Columbus, Phoenix and San Antonio where honored. Pictured are some of the Mayors that attended the event, including the Mayors of Atlanta, Baltimore, Los Angeles, Santa Fe and Tucson.

The University of Arizona College of Medicine broke ground in Phoenix on May 12, kicking off the new 268,000 sq. ft. health sciences education building.  The expanded medical campus will provide the needed space to increase the class size from 48 to 120 taking a critical step toward meeting Arizona’s shortage of doctors, nurses and medical professionals.  The groundbreaking was another major step forward, following approval by the Legislature, two Governors, and final review by the Joint Committee on Capital Review.  In addition to the UA College of Medicine, the HSEB building will provide space for the UA College of Pharmacy and Northern Arizona University programs for physician assistants, occupational therapy and primary care health professionals.

Prop 100 receives major support, as voters confirm their support for education.  With over a million Arizonans voting, the temporary one-cent sales tax received approval by 64 percent of voters.  Solutions Through Higher Education provided voters and coalition members with vital information on how Prop 100 would impact higher education, through outreach events and media strategies.  Thanks to the support of Arizonans, the temporary tax will provide Arizona’s leaders with the opportunity to work together in solving the long-term budget shortfall.

The Legislative Day for Corrections Corporation of America was held at the state Capitol featuring State Senator Rebecca Rios.  During the lunch for legislators and staff, leaders of CCA discussed the role the company plays in Arizona’s economy.
